Toward Building Resource-Recycling Society

We put up the specific goals of figures: 10% average reduction of CO2 generation from the quantity in 2006 during the period of 2008 to 2012 and 20% reduction during the Post Kyoto Protocol period from 2013 to 2018. Specific measures and policies aimed at achieving those goals will be included in the next medium-term business plan to be established during this year, and we will do our best to achieve steady reduction of CO2.

Not to mention corporate efforts, action of each individual person, that is, our individual employee is also important and necessary.

I agree. This year based on our new environment policy, the DOWA group participated in gTeam Minus 6%h, an initiative by the Ministry of the Environment to fight global warming. Each employee will take part in in-house activities to fight global warming. I firmly believe awareness of global warming by each employee will result in promoting reduction of CO2 emission generated through our business activities and contribute directly to achieving gCarbon Neutralh.

Deployment of Activities Contributing to Local Communities

Towards DOWA Loved by Local Communities

Yoshikawa

I think our business activities will continue to increase on a global basis, including resource-recycling and preventative measures of global warming. In deploying those business activities, we should not forget our local communities which have long supported the DOWA group.

This year, like last year, we implemented some activities together with our local communities in Kosaka, Okayama, where DOWA started its first business. In Kosaka we developed large scale afforestation activities on the former mining land of approximately 300,000 m2 with elementary and secondary school students and local people, under the title of gDOWAfs Forestation Programh. We are planning to plant about a million young trees over this land in five years. In Okayama, we formally started the gKojima Lake Blossom Corridor Projecth aimed at creating a landmark of cherry blossoms. Employees of the DOWA group together with local people will plant about 3,000 Kawazu cherry trees around Kojima Lake. The cherry trees we planted last year had already some blossoms this year and the site has become a new local spot.

This year we started a new project in cooperation with Okayama City as part of our programs contributing to our local communities, BDF (Bio Diesel Fuel) business. This is a project to produce BDF using used cooking oil and use it for refuse collection trucks of Okayama City. We regard this business as a new menu to our recycling business and consider expanding the project to other areas in the future.

We want to promote these activities together with our local communities not only in Kosaka, Okayama. I think "to be loved by the Earthh is the origin of DOWAfs business activities and the basis of CSR.
