Environmental Performance - OUTPUT

Global Warming Measures

Emission of global warming gas from the entire DOWA group in 2007 was 129 million t, slight increase of about 2.6% compared to last year, while specific emission unit per sale remains unchanged.

DOWA Metal Mine has the largest emissions and the next is DOWA ECO-System with quite a large amount of emissions.

Global warming gas is mainly produced by the production of electricity; 1% increase from last year.
Annual CO2 emissions caused by wastes from outside sources accounts for 400,000 t since 2004. This type of emission is very difficult to control or reduce on the entrusted side. Therefore, we strived to promote thermal recycling using heat or steam generated by burning wastes for effective use of recycled energy. We also destroy Ozone-destructing CFC and other alternative CFC including HFC and PFC that cause global warming, utilizing the heat generated by burning wastes.

We also promote installation of invertors in machines and processes we use, switching part of fuel to natural gas and introduction of energy-saving equipment. Furthermore, we encourage modal-shifting of transport to railways and vessels that emit less CO2, reduce shipment of small lots as much as possible and review shipping routes for effective transportation.

We also make efforts to save energy in our workplace, including: accelerating replacement of our lighting equipment in our plants and offices to types with higher efficient; having a patrol for checking power saving at lunch time; promoting no overtime days and setting air conditioning temperatures slightly higher.

Participating in gTeam Minus 6%h

 @

The DOWA group participated in the national movement of gTeam Minus 6%h lead by the Global Warming Prevention Headquarters in June 2008, from our Akihabara Headquarters to plants and offices all over Japan.

The DOWA group has Stop global warming together!been engaged in various activities to prevent global warming, but by participating in the gTeam Minus 6%h we would like to more clearly show our business attitude towards contributing to the environment and society.
