About the CSR Report 2011

I can see from DOWA’s CSR report DOWA’s commitment and contribution to a resource-recycling society through its business activities and their progress. The report shows inter-annual results of DOWA’s activities with numerical data including environmental material flow, environmental management and EEBE. It also explains recycling technologies and materials that people are not familiar with, by explaining social backgrounds and technologies, considering audience, featuring characteristics and profiles of each operating company of DOWA and through voices of employees at the forefront.

I see that the technologies, know-how’s and systems long cherished by the DOWA group are the results of steady daily efforts of its employees towards improvement and their challenging spirits to go beyond the existing ones.

Further Improvement

I think that the wonderful thing is that DOWA’s contribution to a society and business development are based on its main business activities toward further improvement, focusing on the environment; however, the definition and positioning of CSR management and environmental management in the report seem unclear to me. The direction and the control and promotion system of DOWA’s CSR management, among others, should be more clearly stated: for example, how the DOWA group addresses social issues besides environments, what is the overall picture of DOWA’s CSR and what are its priorities.

As is mentioned in greeting from CEO, it is important to make DOWA’s workplace worth working at and where employees can make best use of their strengths and uniqueness to build comprehensive responsiveness of the company. I see organization of systems and structures are progressing within the DOWA group, such as those for training and Work/Life balance; however, the next step forward is to encourage more employees to make use of the systems and create and maintain the corporate culture that values diversity. Explanation on initiatives and policies on human rights will be increasingly required for global companies like DOWA.

My Expectation to DOWA’s Initiatives in the Future

In connection with rapid globalization of the DOWA group’s business activities, I expect DOWA to become a real global company. Towards realization of world resource-recycling society, the role of the DOWA group and expectations to DOWA from society are more and more increasing. I expect that the DOWA group will exercise leadership by utilizing its environmental and recycling technologies, exercising its meticulous management capabilities, expanding its initiatives through active collaboration with other industries and external stakeholders and building a wider range of recycling system.
