Feature2 Globally Expanding DOWA Group

The DOWA group has been actively deploying business activities abroad, starting from excavation of mines in 1950 in more than 20 countries and now responding to changing environments of the marketplace and users. Especially since 2000 we have been expanding our business, focusing on rapidly growing Asian countries including China and South Eastern countries.
We went into the rapidly expanding Indian automobile market as the first Japanese heat treatment company in 2011. We also opened an office in the Czech Republic to make sampling and analysis as a European base to recover recycled platinum-group metals.

Global Expansion of CSR Activities

The Mid-term Plan V for 2012 ? 2014 of the DOWA group set forth business expansion to Asian emerging markets as one of the basic policies. Among other goals, we aim at being the top environmental and recycling company in Asia and contributing to improving environment in Asia.
Importance of the CSR management is increasing in the trend of globalization. We need to gain trust from the people of the countries we go into and deploy sustainable business activities. The DOWA group expanded business abroad because the manufacturing technologies and the environmental technologies of resource-recycling cultivated in Japan were highly evaluated there. We also endeavor to expand the CSR activities overseas, including conservation of environment, quality, safety and social contribution activities appropriate for local communities. We participated in the UN Global Compact in 2009 and set it as our standard when we take part in the CSR activities both in Japan and abroad.

Recent Efforts

Last year we were commended for our CSR activities of educational and health support we have continued in Indonesia by the local governor. In Thailand, our local employees take part in safety activities that are deep rooted in local communities. Still-growing China is one of our important overseas deployment bases. We opened an operations controlling company in China to administer local companies of DOWA, control risks and enhance compliance.
We also endeavor to transmit information on our technologies and know-how the DOWA group has cultivated so far to the world in addition to opening manufacturing and sales bases. We are actively participating in major exhibits overseas to send out information to more stakeholders.

◁E width=Presentation of Environmental Technology at the TMS

photoWe made a presentation on the first scorodite process that allows for stable recovery of arsenic from intermediates during copper smelting and refining process and related technologies in the "TMS (Minerals, Metals & Materials Society) 2012-14 1st Annual Meeting & Exhibition" held in Florida, U.S.A in March 2012. TMS is the U.S. largest academic conference on resources and materials where researchers and companies relating to mining, smelting and refining gather from all over the world. Approximately 4,000 people participated in the conference. Active questions and answers at the presentation of the scorodite process indicate that many people are interested in the process.

photoVOICE : Innovative technologies must be first recognized by the world to be referred to as excellent technologies. International conferences are one of the means to confirm our position in terms of technological development. I made a presentation in the TSM and felt that DOWA had many excellent technologies. However, I also saw that there were many other innovative technologies I had never imagined — I thought I must work harder. / Tetsuo Fujita DOWA Metals & Mining
